Vanessa Machin

Activities Leader

Vanessa joined the outdoor activity industry after finishing university, and has loved it since. She enjoys working in the outdoors which has taken her around the UK and even as far as Australia. This has allowed her to gain experience, and develop her interests which include climbing, walking and water sports

“I love being an Activities Coordinator as no day is the same and it allows me to bring together my passion, and share this with all the amazing people I get to meet.”

Tina Fox

Activities Leader

Tina started out volunteering at other centres combining her skills as a support worker for adults with Asperger’s and Autism and her passion for outdoor activities. She went on to work in the USA on returning to the UK she began to pursue an outdoor career going on to gain qualifications in water sports, high ropes, archery and mountain biking.

“I couldn’t be happier working in the outdoors doing the things that I enjoy and being able to assist others to experience these activities.”

Kyle Rodgers

Activities Coordinator

After completing his Outdoor Activities Apprenticeship with us, Kyle brings with him enthusiasm for climbing and working with others.

He helps deliver outdoor programmes to make sure they are accessible, so everyone can participate and enjoy their outdoor woodland adventure and enjoy the outdoors as much as he does.

Phil Constantine

Woodland Adventure Zone Volunteer

Phil started volunteering in January 2020 after retiring. He supports the team by maintaining the woodland path and areas around the facility. He has created some beautiful insect houses and displays around the woodlands and keeps the area looking neat and tidy. Phil enjoys being outdoors, he loves nature, birds and the forest and he enjoys chatting with our learners and citizens who use the Woodland Adventure Zone.

‘Being outside for me is very therapeutic, I love gardening, bird watching and I even look after a hedgehog in my own garden. This is my happy place and it’s really rewarding being able to make a difference to everyone at Portland’.
