Sarah's Magical Experience

Portland College Learning Support Assistant, Sarah, took the opportunity to have a go on the climbing wall and zip line in our Woodland Adventure Zone.

Here she describes her experience.... "I have accessed the woodland zone twice now, and both times the experience has been amazing. I am a very active person and love anything fitness and adventure based. So when I heard about the woodland zone and what was going to be there, I couldn’t wait to try it out!

"However, with having a physical disability (Cerebral Palsy), I wondered how I would be able too access the climbing wall.

"After a conversation with Phil Parrott, he and Vanessa took me to the climbing wall to have a go and see what equipment would be beneficial and aid me to do the climb. I felt excited as I have climbed before but I haven’t for many years.

"With Phil’s knowledge and the ability to adapt, he knew I had the strength and ability to use my limbs, but I still required some support whilst climbing . Therefore, he thought of using an harness which he uses to do safety checks… and it worked absolutely incredible as I was able to climb but I still had the safety and security that if I needed help, he was there to support.

"Being able to participate in activities which some people take for granted, makes me feel like it doesn’t matter if you have a disability… you can still achieve anything you can put your mind too. "Also when you get to the top of the wall and turn to look over at the trees.., it is truly magical"
